In my last article, I wrote about why attending a trade show might be good for your creative business. But how does a person know where the shows are and what they are all about?
Here are a few trade shows and conferences you might consider attending. Of course, do your research as to dates, venues and travel. Talk to people who have attended the shows to get a feel for how beneficial they might be for you and consider attending a few trade shows and walking the floor before deciding to set up a booth if you can.
TNNA – Is the trade show for The National NeedleArts Association.
From their Mission Statement: The National NeedleArts Association advances its community of professional businesses by encouraging the passion for needlearts through education, industry knowledge exchange and a strong marketplace.
You do need to be a member of TNNA in order to attend the trade shows and you can get all of that information on their website.
CHA – The Craft and Hobby Association has two trades shows annually.
From their website: CHA’s vision, simply stated, is to create a vibrant industry with an exciting image, an expanding customer base and successful members. The goal is to stimulate the sales growth of the craft and hobby industry by creating consumer demand, helping members succeed and leading the industry.
NAMTA – National Art Materials Association
From their website: The International Art Materials Association (NAMTA) is the world’s largest association dedicated to promoting the art/creative materials industry. Members include retailers, manufacturers, distributors and importers from around the world. Our mission is to provide members with the products, services and information needed to grow and prosper.

SDA – Surface Design Association
From their website: To inspire creativity, encourage innovation and advocate for artistic excellence as the global leader in textile-inspired art and design.

This isn’t a comprehensive list, by any means, but it gives you and idea of how many trade shows and conferences there are and hopefully, will give you more information about the trade associations and other groups available to help you grow your creative business.
